Project Overview

IT rooms of CICT has a good quality of computers but we are thinking a more convenient and an organize connections of computers. We plan to have a network design for the students and faculty members.

Our group chosen IT 4 as a room to be design. It has a good space and it has enough computers. We could have a better network design that will connect the computers for easy installation and to help and inspires students in developing their skills and knowledge in the field of information and communications technology.

Individual Assignments

ATIENZA, Lara Lyn F. - Installation of cables, Documentation

LITAO, Almira T. - Decision Making, Blog developer, Researcher in networking

VILLAMOR, Angelique E. - Computing cable measurements, Decision making

VILLENA, Abigael E.- Hardware, Network Installation

Network Installation

Computer network installation is efficient and commonly use today. It provides sharing information and staying in touch constantly.

Network installation includes the kind of topology, network operating system, the right network interface cards and cabling needs to be considered. There are different topologies to be use depends on the size of the area that needs to be network. The location of the network cables, various devices, hubs, switches, and servers.Good network planning can help everyone for an easy access to each computers.

The operating system to be used by the server is Microsoft Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition and the clients will used the Windows XP. The possible topology that we are going to install is star-bus topology. We are going to have a one computer server to serve as a File server. This is where the professors will check every work of their students.

It is necessary for a college in a university to have a network. College of Information and Communications Technology is belong to the fastest changing field. It is sufficient to students of CICT to broaden their knowledge that is why we want to have a internet connection for easier and faster transfer of knowledge and information. Because of this a good network installations are here for them.

Wiring Standards and Procedures

Structured cabling system or structured wiring refers to all of the cabling and components installed in a logical and organized way. This refers to the cables that are needed in planning a good network installation. A properly designed structured cabling is a very important aspects of a good network. It will avoid latency, attenuation and collision or any other kinds of losing signals. There are many physical factors to consider about structured cabling, including weight, diameter, bending radius, pull force, and termination all of which can cause degradation of the signal being transmitted through the cable.

We choose IT 4 as our room to be design. It has 27 standalone computers that we are going to use UTP cable CAT 5e and we are going to apply the star bus topology rule in networking. We choose IT 4 as our room to be design. It has 27 standalone computers that we are going to connect using repeating devices like hubs and switches. With our own design,we will design the computers depends in on our style, the computers must have a proper spaces. The cables connects the computers and repeating devices. The cable are organize in a pipeline that is now installed in the room. We will specify there the proper places of cables like having them at the floor, wall oe ceiling.

LAN Diagram

Bird's eyeview
We design this room to network all the computers.
In the diagram we use different kind of repeaters like switch, and router.
The switch is a connectivitydevice that connects network segments.that processes and routes data at the Data link layer(layer 2) of the OSI model. Switches that additionally process data at the Network layerayer 3 and above) are often referred to as Layer 3 switches or Multilayer switches.Router connect two or more logical subnets which do not necessarily map one-to-one to the physical interfaces of the router. We use the router to connect the two switches together to network all their respected workstations. UTP cable was the wire we used to connect the computer to the connectivity device.

Man's eyeview

In our diagram we specify the connection of the ceiling, floor and wall. We have two switch and one router. The half side of the room is connected in Switch 1 and the other half side is connected to another switch that we can call as Switch 2 and that both switch are connected in one router. The router will avoid the collision in the network.
The cable are protected in a race way for those that are located in the ceiling and wall, and for the floor it is covered with alluminum.

The switch that we used is a two 16 ports switch(refer to hardware pricing). The router is
Broadband Router with 4-Port Switch.
